Our Mission
At Clean Bushwick Initiative (CBI), our community-driven mission is to create a clean, safe and healthy environment for our community members, visitors and businesses. We raise awareness to local littering issues by organizing street cleanup events and providing educational resources to reduce, redirect and properly dispose of waste. With this purpose, we advocate for community stewardship to beautify Bushwick’s greenspaces — including local parks, gardens and business centers.
Our Strategy
To combat the ongoing litter challenges in Bushwick that pose threats to our community health and business economy, our strategy encompasses two focus areas: Environmental Stewardship and Community Activism. Environmental stewardship will incorporate practices that collect and properly manage litter throughout the community — including waste reduction, recycling, composting and creating a clean storefront environment. Community activism will support advocacy on a community level to strengthen our litter-free culture by engaging residents and visitors in CBI events, such as local cleanups, environmental workshops and related events.
Pledge Commitment
CBI encourages you to create a Litter-Free Environment across your business or organization through a culture of Accountability, Collaboration, and Transparency. More than X community members and X companies have already embraced the commitments to support CBI. To join them as part of Bushwick’s litter-free community initiative, you must voluntarily pledge to:
● Integrate the CBI Pledge and its principles in your business strategy, day-to-day operations and organizational culture to eliminate litter.
● Consistently monitor and maintain a clean storefront environment – including clearing sidewalks to the curb and caring for trees and/or planters.
● Take action to engage locally and support your surrounding community
● Attend CBI cleanups, environmental workshops or related events
● Provide an annual Communication on Progress (CoP) that outlines your efforts to operate responsibly and support our community. These CoPs will be shared across our community.
● Make an annual financial commitment to support the work of CBI. This will enable us to continue providing ongoing support to our community partners like you who have committed to transforming our community through local clean-ups, workshops, and events.
Pledge Member Benefits
Within the availability of funds, CBI will commit to beautify your business storefront in the form of flower gardens and/or tree bed care to be implemented by fellow community members. This practice will support efforts to maintain a litter-free environment while creating a lasting and attractive landscape for your community members and patrons.
Additionally, through our media platforms — including our website, newsletter and social media — CBI will support your business with positive visibility as an active and valued community member. With your participation, we may also conduct an interview to highlight your organizational efforts to support CBI, the community as well as your very own mission.
