Send This Letter to Our Elected Officials

Today, we face an urgent threat: an administration undermining our freedom and elected officials doing nothing to stop it. Please send this letter to our elected officials calling on them to stand up to an administration trampling our rights and laying siege to our democracy.

To our elected officials,

Today, we face an urgent threat: policies that undermine our freedoms, harm vulnerable communities, and weaken democratic values. We cannot afford to stand by as these policies take root in our city and state. Our ask of you is simple: Do something to protect democracy and combat illegal actions from the Administration.

It is the obligation of the opposition party to challenge harmful policies, advocate for fair and just legislation, and ensure that democratic principles are upheld. This includes mobilizing voters, holding those in power accountable, and actively presenting alternative solutions that reflect the needs and values of the people they represent. Recently, elected Democrats have done none of that.

To the elected officials of New York State and City, we call on you now to take actions to protect our communities. If you are looking for a place to start, we have suggested some actions below.

1. Host a Town Hall
Elected officials must engage directly with their constituents to understand their concerns, answer questions, and outline their plans to protect New York from harmful policies. Hosting a town hall provides a platform for open dialogue and accountability.

2. Ensure Fair Elections
Voter suppression is a growing threat nationwide. New York has ranked 17th in voter access nationwide. It's time that New York lead the way in voter access: ample early voting, multiple ballot drop box locations, an expansive list of acceptable voter ID, and the ability to register and vote in the same day. New York also needs to challenge any efforts by the Trump Administration to harm free and fair elections. The Trump Administration has issued executive orders to limit voter access and suppress votes. It’s time that elected officials take a stand and challenge this order and others in any way that they can.

3. Remember the Communities that Elected You
As harmful policies target our communities, people in New York feel threatened. In all that you do, please remember the communities that elected you and are counting on you to protect us and our rights. You took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, and your obligation is to the communities you represent and their people, not to the Trump Administration.

  • Support the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act!

The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2023 expands and improves upon earlier versions of the bill by tapping into proven solutions that will better protect impacted communities, reform our broken recycling system, and shift the financial burden of waste management off of municipalities and taxpayers to where it belongs: the producers of plastic pollution.

  • Save Community Composting Now!

Sign the petition urging Mayor Adams not to eliminate your community composting and asking our City Council for their help.
