There are many ways to get involved in your community outside of the Clean Bushwick Initiative. This is our list of other groups and activities that will help lead to the resolution of local environmental challenges.
Join a Program

Become a Super Steward with NYC Parks
Super Stewards work independently by taking the lead on caring for their neighborhood parks and spreading the word about the benefits of nature in the city.
Super Stewards can work on their own, lead other volunteers, host projects, apply for mini-grants, network with other volunteers, and get a sneak peek at the inner-workings of the agency.

Join the Brooklyn Community Board 4
Brooklyn Community Board 4 represents the neighborhood of Bushwick and is the official municipal body whose primary mission is to advise elected officials and government agencies on matters affecting the welfare of the district.
BK CB4 meets on the third Wednesday of the month (except during July and August). All meetings are open to the public.

Rat Prevention & Info with NYC Health
Rats can be a problem for residents, property owners, businesses and entire neighborhoods. Their gnawing and burrowing can cause damage and they can contaminate food, spread disease and reduce our quality of life.

Adopt a Spot with Sanitation Foundation
Adopt your Spot NYC is a program for New Yorkers to pledge to take care of a “spot” like the side of the block you live on, the tree bed in front of your building, that corner of the park you always go to…wherever it is, it’s yours to claim!
To support your efforts Sanitation Foundation will provide you with a starter kit of tools and supplies for free.

Events with LES Ecology Center
The LES Ecology Center has pioneered community-based models in urban sustainability since 1987. They provide unique composting and e-waste services, environmental stewardship opportunities, and educational programming to all New Yorkers to create an equitable, resilient, and sustainable city.

Tour of Balcones Recycling Fascility
The Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is the largest and most sophisticated plant for commingled residential recyclables in North America. The facility won the 2010 Award for Excellence in Design from the Public Design Commission. Schedule a tour of the facility.

Reusable Solutions is on a mission is to eradicate single use plastic and to break free from fossil fuels. They design, implement, and support programs in service of this mission.
